I wanted to provide you with an update regarding burglary, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. Although we do not want to cause alarm, with regret we are writing to advise that officers are making enquiries in relation to a male who has been out during the early hours, and has gained entry into a residential home, and has been sighted at other properties.
Whilst talking with victims of this dreadful crime, it has come to police attention that residents have captured this suspect on their residential CCTV or video doorbells, and shared amongst various chat groups.
"We need your help" To enable police to track the route of the suspect and gain as much evidence as possible, and as soon as possible, we are asking if you believe someone has tried to gain entry to your property, or has been snapped on your footage, then please contact police on the non-emergency number by dialing101 (or online https://www.met.police.uk/ro/report/ocr/af/how-to-report-a-crime/report-something-else-btp/)
If you reside in or surrounding area to Mount Pleasant/Stock Hill/Acer Road, please check your CCTV for any suspicious activity.
If you would like to speak to your local safer neighbourhood team in a non-urgent matter, then please email bigginhillsnt@met.police.uk
Please note that we are not 24hrs and will respond to your email at the earliest opportunity.
In an emergency your report will be despatched to an emergency response team who are 24hrs.
While we will continue to pursue burglars in the area, there are steps you can do to help keep your property safe. Make sure that you: Double lock your door every time you leave the house If you can, move garden furniture or bins away from windows so that thieves cannot use them to gain access. Use laminated glass or security film on ground floor and accessible windows. Use a sash stop if you have sash windows to prevent people opening them enough to climb through. If your windows open outwards, use a key operated lock – check these are locked before leaving the house. Make sure all valuables are out of sight. Keep handbags and keys away from letterboxes or cat flaps. In the evening shut the curtains and leave lights on. Set your burglar alarm Lock your shed or garage Mark, register or record your valuables.
